Essex Jiangsu Festival Concert Finale
To celebrate the culmination of the festival in style, a grand concert finale took place at the Harlow Sportcentre on Sunday 22 March 2009. This featured the world premiere of Symphonic Poem, specially commissioned from eminent Chinese composer Professor Zou Jianping for the Harlow Chorus and City of London Sinfonia (CLS).
The concert also included the CLS performing Benjamin Britten's last purely orchestral work, his Suite on English Folk Tunes, and UK-based award-winning Chinese Silk String Quartet played traditional and new pieces. Young people from Harlow schools performed music and dance pieces inspired by the two cultural traditions at the heart of this project, which have been devised in conjunction with CLS musicians.
Reece Productions were given the task of turning the Harlow Sportcentre into a venue befitting this grand event. To this end we managed and specified the installation of a 23 mtr wide, 13 mtr deep and 7 mtr high truss ground support system. This enabled us to light the Orchestra, Chorus and other performers from above. A rear drape was enhanced by 6 x 5mtr x 1mtr hangs of Chroma Q Colour Web. Audio was taken care of by a Yamaha LS9 16 channel desk and a selection of KV2 EX speakers flown and on floor stands.
